This post is SO relevant! It took me time to comment as I needed the time to go over the slideshow carefully. You could devote a blog post to each of the suggestions – there is so much to discuss here. Perhaps we can do a joint one – how same principals work in different settings. I’m so pleased you included volunteers – do you have any?

In summer, we have volunteers to help out with classes, predominantly to add to the cultural mix, but also to provide students with another native speaker with whom to talk. I also employ them to help instructors with their workload (i.e. errands, etc.). As far as student volunteers themselves, these tend more to fall into the grouping of volunteer mentors/tutors for their weaker classmates.
I appreciate you going through the slideshow yourself. This post really was aimed at the participants of my workshop on this topic from the weekend, so I doubt much of it made sense to others. I may, however, record it at some point and put it out there for anyone. Of course, like you say, there is plenty to discuss here and when time allows, I may take you up on the joint post.
